Founded in 2011, the group currently has in-person events six days a week all over the metro area, as well as a lichess.org online event. Inexpensive beginner lessons are offered in a recurring series, and all of our meetups feature casual unrated games that can include blitz, rapid, and untimed games. We have the entire range from beginners to Masters in the group. There is no cost to attend any event except for the lessons, and we play at coffee shops, restaurants and breweries around the city. A Kid's Guide to Playing Chess
Chess is one of the oldest games ever created. It was as popular back in the days of knights and gauntlets as it is in the days of smartphones and apps. Recently, thanks to movies like Queen of Katwe and television shows like The Queen's Gambit, chess is becoming even more popular, especially among younger people. Learning chess can feel intimidating, but it shouldn't stop anyone who is interested from trying. Chess takes practice, but anyone can learn with some effort.
